My Dear Mary
Yours of the 17th was recd. last
evening & I assure you it relieved me very much
to learn that you was getting better & also little
Brucy. I recd. Ella’s letter of the 10th four days
ago, she said that you & Brucy were very sick &
that he was taken Saturday night & had four spasms
on Sunday. How thankful I feel to know that you
are both getting well again! I hope you will be
careful of yourself until you fully recover your
health. Capt. McDonald got back ten days before
yesterday. He said he was so busy with his own matters
at home, that he had not time to go by for you & the
children & get back here before the expiration of his
leave of absence. I did not feel much certainty in
your coming, but hoped you would, & felt much
disappointed when McDonald returned without you,
but had he called he would have found you & Brucy
too sick to come, I suppose. In my letter
which you failed to get, I directed you to
correspond with Mrs. Demott about coming, but
she arrived here a week ago. I would very much
like to see you & the children before the commen-
cement of the spring & summer campaign which
is liable to commence soon.
