Head Qrs. 4th NY. Cavalry
Bristae Station July 25th 1863
Major General R. H. Milroy
General
I have the honor to
acknowledge the text of your letter of the 20th May
which reached me this day. And it is with pleasure
I comply with your request. I sent your maps
by Adams Express. I am sorry none of your
lost papers fell in my hands. The only other
mementos I had, were the stars from the rebel
General Early’s coat. I trust the day is not
far distant when the stars may be taken
from all in arms against this country,
and our flag of freedom wave in all
the states. I am General
very respectfully
your obedient servant
Aug. Pruyre
Lieut. Col. 4th NY. Cavalry
