Tullahoma Tenn,
April 5th, 1865
Lieutenant
I have the honor to report that
in accordance with orders from Major Genl.
Milroy my command composed of three com-
panies, of the 153rd Ill. Vols. two companies of the
47th Wis. Vols. one company of the 43rd Wis. Vols. Capt.
Sparks’ scouts (numbering 22 men) marched from
Dechert, and (100) one hundred 5th Tenn cavalry
Vols. under Capt. Casen marched from Fayettville
with orders to concentrate at Tony’s Mill on
Big Creek Jackson Co. Alabama, Co. F. 47th Wis. Vols.
left the Charleston & Memphis R.R. at Larkinsville, Co. &
47th Wis. Vols. left the L&M R.R. at Woodville Co. A
43rd Wis. Vols. left the same road at Gurley’s Tank each
with orders to meet me at Tony’s Mill on Wednesday
March 29th at about 2 o’clock , on the 29th Co. A 43rd
Wis. Vols. commanded by Lieut. Patridge when about
8 miles from the R.R. ran into a party of Guerrillas and
skirmished with them for several miles, but they
escaped owing to their being mounted, and the
failure of the cavalry to arrive by the road from
George Berry’s house as directed, in written orders.
However I believe that Capt. Casen Com. of the cavalry
was not to blame, as after diligent search he was
unable to find said Berry’s. Lieut. Partridge’s Co. wounded
one of the Guerrillas who has since died as I
am informed by the citizens. Leaving the three
companies of the 153rd Ill. Vols. at Talliferres
about four miles from Tony’s Mill. I advanced
