Head Qr Post Nashville
Nahsville Tenn. Sept. 14 1864
Special Orders
No. 71 Extract
In relieving the 135th regiment
Indiana Volunteer Infantry from further
duty at this post. The General Commanding
deems it proper to return his thanks
Officers & men. Of the regiment and to Comm
end in Order their Exemplary & soldierly
Conduct while on duty at this post.
Having fulfilled their contract with
the Government & turned their faces home
ward it was a disappointment & trial
that the exegencies of this service should
demand their detention after the expi=
ration of their term of service. They bore
the disappointment cheerfully & discharged
the duties inherent upon them in a manner
that reflects credit upon the discipline &
efficiency of the regiment. Such subordination
and faithfullnefs in the discharge of duty
would be creditable to veteran
troops.
