General, 

                   Yours of the 13th with enclosures 
is sound, asking an explanation of what 
                              
is implied by a portion, which you quote of the endorsement 
on you in the 10th district by me to be read 
by Maj. Cravens & returned to you.  I cannot 
well see how I can by any explanation 
make (stricken: plainer) more plain the idea implied 
(stricken: by this) or intended to be conveyed by that 
portion of the endorsement quoted.  But I can 
explain and do take pleasure in explaining 
to you that the language quoted by you from 
said endorsement was not intended to apply 
to you.  I did think strange & was not pleased 
with Lt. Sheets visit to this place for the purpose 
of procuring the release of these two vindictive 
rebels & treasonness horbens & friends of 
bushwhackers & of the deep interest that he 
manifested for them & which led him as I am 
enjoined from here to Nashville xxxxxxxx 
upon the ?????  Comd.  xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
