Dover, Del. June 9th, 1863
To Lieut. Col. Donn Piatt, Chf. Of Staff
Halleck has never indicated points of concentration. Md.
Heights of course is one, any other must be somewhat determined by
circumstances. Confer with Kelly and Milroy. Be slow about
leaving Winchester but not too slow. Frederick City may become
very important if any crossing be attempted east of Harpers Ferry.
I will be home by four tomorrow morning. Ask Genl. Halleck if he
has points to suggest.
Signed R. C. Schenck

To Brig. Genl. Averill

Scammon telegraphs “from knowledge of force in my front, my
opinion is that no part my force can be sent to Summerville”
Signed Scammon.
Stuart is said to be collecting over ten thousand mounted men, at
Culpepper for a raid. It can scarcely be for your region, but it is well
to be on the alert. No more infantry can be spared for the present.
Signed Donn Piatt
Lt. Col. & Chief of Staff
