My Dear Mary,
I recd yours of the 5th
inst. three days ago. I am much pleased to
learn of the good health of yourself and the children.
It would be most grateful treat to me to
go home and see you and my dear children. That
dear sweet interesting little fellow – Brucy would
interest me very much. I feel annoyed at the
loss of that fifty dollars I sent you. I sent
it in a letter about the 10th of Feb. and I fear
it has been stolen by some thievish post
master. It is inconvenient to get money sent by
express from here as there is no office nearer
than the R.R. But I hope you have recd
the last batch of $800.00 which I sent you
by express about the 5th inst. I sent by the
pay master to Wheeling to be put in the express
from here and I think it will certainly go safe.
If it has been stolen to it will be about burst
me in pecuniary matters. I am still here without
orders for leaving, notwithstanding all the fine
prospects and promises that I had from McClellan
and others. I have given up all hope of getting
away from here in any way than fighting
away, and if I had my dear old 9th with me, I would
