A Resolution
passed the House of Representatives some weeks
ago calling on the Secy. Of War for a full copy
of the evidence & proceedings of the court of
Inquiry relative to the evacuation of Winchester
by my forces. There are a number of papers
appirtaining to that case & several that were
used on the trial that I think will not be found
on the file. I am anxious that every paper of
any importance relating to this matter shall
come before the public that it may be known
whether my unfortunate & disgraceful arrest
was justifiable or not. & whether I was fairly
delt by or not. I have & am proposed to fume=
ish copies of many of these papers which
I hope you will pass on me for calling your
attention to as I desire for the sake of truth
justice & history that all the facts in relative to
this matter may be known. The papers which I have
