Respectfully referred to the commanding
Genl. of the District of Tennessee for his inform-
ation & for such action as he may deem best
for the good of the service. The 10th Tenn. Cav.
having been ordered away from my command
I can take no steps in clearing it of
drunken & worthless officers or for its disciplin
Prior to its being ordered away from my
Command. Seeing its Col. (Bridges) several
times very drunk & hearing that he is never
sober & learning that the Regt. is without
disciplin & greatly demoralized & desiring to
get at its true status that I might do something
for its reformation - I applied to its surgeon
(a gentleman of the highest honor & integrity
with whom I have been acquainted for twenty years)
for a private statement relative to the disruption
of his Regt. & character of its officers & the within
is his statement which I vouch for as being
perfectly reliable. The harmony of his situation
in the Regt. requires that this let this statement
of his should be kept private.
