              We heard the cheers of this party 
for the nominee of their convention at 
Chicago           everywhere ?????? 
 thundered back with redoubled 
enthusiasm (stricken: by) from the lines of the armed 
foe on our front *  All these threatening  
circumstances & appearances led us to fear that the fruits 
of the blood treasure & victory of the last 
four years were about to be thrown away 
or rather voted away by traitors in our 
rear – but the glorious result of the late 
elections (stricken: of) in the North, indicating the 
the course of public opinion & the grand 
overwhelming strength of the  ??????? 
 Union Sentiment 
has relieved our armies of all apprehension of 
          danger from the men We now feel sure that our armies 
(stricken: that they)   will 
have a firm reliable base (stricken: we now feel) 
and that our Union friends at home 
will give Copperhead traitors a Waterloo 
defeat on the 8th approx & break the back 
of the Rebellion by the reelection of Abraham 
Lincoln.  His election in 1860 gave the 
much desired pretext to Southern conspirators 
for their long pre-determined rebellion and his 
reelection in 1864 will crush out their last 
hope for success & end xx rebellion in our country 
forever
