My term
of 4 months imprisonment
in this place ends in the
morning when I will start for
secession. It is just 4 months
to day since I came down
from Cheat Mountain
Summit & took command
of this district. If I could
have then been assured that I
would have to stay 4 months
here I would have resigned. It is
well we cannot see ahead of us. I have been
watching the rebels in advance of us almost
7 months, nearly as long as
McClellen has been watching
them on the Potomac & as in his case
