Description	A letter to Milroy's wife, Mary, enclosing money. He writes that he left Tullahoma for Murfreesboro where he and Van Cleve inspected the railroad. He continued on to Nashville, where it appears he will be staying for a while. He is temporarily taking command for General Rousseau who is leading a raid into Alabama.

Transcript	Nashville, Tenn. July 6th 1864 My Dear Mary, I recd your enclo sing one from Ella a few days ago. Tell Ella I was much pleased with her letter & that she is imp- roving in writing very much. I hope she will write often. I left Tullahoma yesterday morning in company with my My Medical Director Dr. McCle- len (who was surgeon of the 135th Inc) & come up to Murfeesboro yesterday and stoped there with Brig. Genl. VanCleve who commanded my 1st Brigade. I road around with him examining the great fortifications & looking at the battle field of Stone River till dark. Gen. VanCleve was in the battle then & wounded. He is an excellent old man, is very pious & a West Pointer. I came on here today. I left Murfreesborro at 5 oclock this morning & got here at 9 A.M. I went to the paymaster & drew my pay for June $433.15. And enclosed I send you $300.00 to be appropriated as you think best.
