I recd. yours of the 29th
ult and 30th some days ago & was glad
to learn that you were all well, I am
still socializing here. My most
important employment is sending
out after gurillas that are committing
depredations in the country. I have one
Regt. of Tennesse Cavalry here that are
splendid gurilla hunters. They are well
acquainted with the country & there is a
deadly hatred between them & the gurillas,
caused by outrages committed by the latter
upon the families or friends of the former.
The most of my Tennessee troops are
refugees who have been driven from their
houses and all have wrongs to avenge so
they take no prisoners. This suits me exactly
& they know it so I never see any gurilla
prisoners, & frequently hear of them being killed
