In my communication to Maj. Gnl
Schenck of July 22nd which was forwarded
to the General in Chief in which I ask for
a Court of Inquiry I was under the
impression that by the 79th article of
War my arrest had expired some
two weeks previous & so stated it, but
upon further examination of that article
and of my order of arrest (a copy of which
is herewith enclosed) I became convinced
that I was mistaken, as the said article
of war states that the confinement (not the
arrest) shall cease within eight days upon
failure to file charges, and my order of arrest
places me in arrest “till further orders” and
no “further orders” have yet been received by me.
I therefore respectfully ask, if no cause of
arrest exists against me, that I be released
from arrest.
Very Respectfully Yours etc
(signed) R. H. Milroy
Maj. Gnl.
(on reverse)
Application to be
released from arrest
refused
