Rensselaer, Ind Dec 29’’ 1862
Dear Genl
Mary says I must
write & will not hear to my
excuses – that you have too much
to attend to without being bothered
with my nonsense. She got
a letter & Richmond Enquirer
from you yesterday. We were
quite amused by your acct of
the combat & chase of the bush-
whacker & your soldier. Your
boy was good game to pitch
into him single-handed but Mr
Bush seemed to be the best man
to fight or run & very adventurous.
What did you do with him? I
expect you tried to get him to join
you. Such a gallant fellow would
win your admiration, I think.
