To Our Men In The Service:
Even though the whole world is apparently engulfed in the bitter tragedy of modern war, we of America have taken time to celebrate Christmas, the birth date of the "Prince of Peace", and we hopefully await the day when the ideals of Peace will again dominate the minds and hearts of men-everywhere.
You, in answer to the Nation's call to service, have assumed a grim task, but we know you enter that service with the American determination of seeing the job through, regardless of the sacrifice you may be called upon to make. You are an American and proud of it; therefore, you could not, and would not, do otherwise.
As you begin the year of 1942, I know it is your resolution to "forget those things that are behind" and to look forward with courage and confidence to the days ahead, secure in your knowledge that you are doing your full share to recreate a world in which American ideals will prevail and Christmas can again be a genuinely happy occasion.
