THE SMITHVILLE NEWS VOL 6 75c A Year SMITHVILLE, INDIANA, FRIDAAY, APRIL, 3, 1914 No. 46 LOCAL NEWS April fool: wash your face and go to school! Sam Carson, who has been sick is better. Mrs Oscar Eades, of Allens Creek is quite sick. The little daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Fox is quite sick. Mr and Mrs John Cline of Indianapolis, visited Mr and Mrs Chas Clines over Sunday. Mrs and Mrs Henry Siscoe spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Joe Flinn east of Bloomington. Edmond, the three year old son of Mr and Mrs Joe Zikes, died Tuesday evening of pneumonia fever. The funeral was held yesterday at 10 oclock at the christian church. Joe Stull now has a telephone. Tom Hardin has been indiated by the grand jury for first degree murder, which the penalty is death in the electric chair. A HOUSE DIVIDED Poor Good Old Clear Creek, township, the democratic west of Monroe County is full of mutiny, and next Wednesday one of the bitterest fought conventions will take place. The real fight will be, to beat Hensley. Although his prospects at this time, seem very favorable. In evnt af his nomination the "ring will turn to try to elect a republican trustee. The "Bull Moose" will also have out a ticket so there is yet some fun between now and next November. Commissioner Wisley has bought a new ford, several around here are going to buy new cars this spring. Peter Deckard has already bought one and Henry Siscoe is nearly in the notion. OUR MINISTER HEADS TICKET The Progressives of Lawrence County met in mass convention at Saturday, more than 200 representatives of the party being presant. A full county ticket was nominated, headed by the Rev. Quincy Short, of Springville, a minister of the Christian Church, as candidate for representative. A special nurse of the Chicago Hospital, Mrs Geo Nilles Margaret Sweeten and Lena Watson and Margarett Anderson; Miss Clyde Wells, Frank Norland John Johnston, Wesland Daniels Gus Baine. Frank Kupperheimer Geo Nilles, and Frank Mumb- Games were played, a number of useful presents were given. All departed at a late hour wishing many more happy returns of the day. The Democrats cf Monroe County, are pleased with Cullop's record in congress, and will give him an almost unanimous vote next Wednesday.
