ACES LOSE TO MEMORIAL Dale's Golden Aces, and champions of Spencer County, staged a tough battle with Memorial Tigers Wednesday night, on Dale's floor, but lost by only three points. The first half of the game was fought on fairly even terms, Dale leading at the end of the first quarter by one, and Memorial leading by two at the half. In the third period, the Tigers turned in a remarkable exhibition of marksmanship, hitting seven of nine shots, many from long range. Coach Livengood's boys came back to life in the last quarter to score 11 points while holding the Tigers to three, but those three points made the score 31-28 in favor of the Tigers. Word was received here last Friday of the death of Mrs. Isabella Simmons of Richland. Mrs. Simmons was formerly a Dale citizen having lived here many years ago. She was buried in the Ebenezer U. B. Cemetery near Richland Monday afternoon. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lola Abbott and a mother Mrs. Angeline Wilson. Mrs. Simmons was a cousin to the late Mrs. J. P. Medcalf. FARWELL PARTY HELD AT GYM A farewell dinner was given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. P. K. Connelly, the former County Agricultural Agent of Spencer County, Monday evening, January 17, in the Dale School building. Immediately after the dinner, with E. H. Loehr as "Master of Ceremonies", a program was given which was planned by Mrs. G. Linhardt. Violin Solo Mr. Nation Appreciation to Mr. Connelly 4-H Frances Lubbehusen Carter Twp. H. Economics Mrs. A. TOURNEY The Spencer County Basketball Tourney is now history, but Dale High School has a beautiful trophy to remember that their boys were the 1938 victors. The Dale basketball boys played hard and were determined to bring home the bacon. They are to be congratulated for their fine work and sportsmanship. The Rockport Democrat trophy wag given to Louis Wahl, No. 8 on the picture in the back row. He received the trophy because he allowed during the tourney the best mental attitude and ability. He too is to be congratulated. The first game of the tourney was played between Richland and Chrisney with Richland winning by a score of 27 to 21. Rockport Zebras than played Grandview with Rockport winning by a score of 33 to 20. The Dale Aces played their first game Saturday afternoon, by playing and defeating Richland by a score of 32 to 25. Rockport came to the finale after defeating Gentryville at 3,00 o'clock by a score of 40-27. The finale was the most interesting game, when two strong teams, Dale Aces and Rockport Zebras clash. It was a lighting game from start to finish. Rockport remained in the lead to the half, the score at the half being 18-10. From the half on, Dale got in the lead and at the close of the third quarter Dale had a safe lead of 27-20. Rockport attempted to rally the last quarter but to no avail, for Dale proved to be the stronger, by winning by a score of 30-23. The Carter Township Home Economies club met Tuesday evening at to the home of Mrs. Cecil Jenkins, with Mrs. Wm. Painter, Mrs. Henry Richardson and Mrs. Charles Bochstabler as assistant hostesses. The meeting was opened by Mrs. Geo. Linhardt, president. The club song, "Dear Old Southern Indiana," club creed and motto were given. Mrs. Bruce, club leader, gave a report of the conference held at Purdue, Jan. 10-15. This conference was very interesting and instructive, about seven thousand delegates from over the state attended. The door prize was won by Mrs. E. Reinke. Delicious refreshments of home made ice cream, wafers and coffee were served to eighteen members and two guests, Miss McDaniel and Mrs. Taylor. The latter became a member of our club.
