Dear Jesse
Please notice I omitted the (i) in Jessie. I received your letter and the four copies of the
“ SPEEDOMETER”, which were very interesting, especially to learn the whereabouts of
many of the Speed men. Say! Jesse if you think you are busy, I wish I could swap jobs
with me for about two weeks so you could really learn the true meaning of the word. Oh!
Yes I know to you it seems a lot; but I dare say that your day doesn’t start at 5:15 A.M.
Please don’t take me wrong, I am not asking for your job, I only think it would be nice to
spend a couple of weeks in Speeds again and I dare say I would some how manage to
spend an evening or two with Margaret and Robert at home. That’s my real desire in
liking to switch jobs with you.
Jesse, I think I am a losted man. It seems I just can’t get out of Virginia. I did succeed in
getting out for a few weeks to Rhode Island; but you’ve heard that song “Carry Me Back
to Old Virginia.”? Well that’s the way they brought me back.
