Hello, T-Bone:
Well, boy, a lot has happened since you received my last letter. You remember, of course, the letters you formerly received from me with the Speedometer enclosed. Well, now I am sending out nearly 300 each month and they go almost all over the world. I only wish I could send them to you for a I expect you would be glad to see a Speedometer now and then.
Jesse Swartz was in the hospital four and a half months; He is out now but not home. Charlie Snider has also been in the hospital. The collection of pictures at the Community House numbers over 100 now; I never did get one of you.
I suppose your mother wrote you about the rain we had on Memorial Day. The Legion had its usual program at the Flag Pole in Dr. Hauss' yard. I asked your Mother to take part by placing the memorial wreath at the base of the pole. Just as we arrived there and the band began to play the "Star-Spangled Banner," it began to pour down rain. Rev. Deich, who was to offer a prayer, had a ladies' umbrella (and a very small one, at that!) trying to keep the rain off himself and your mother. After he said "Amen" we all ran for Dr. Hauss' garage where we stayed for about half an hour while the rain poured!
Well, T-Bone, I believe Speed looks nicer now than ever before. The shrubbery and trees are all so full and green, and the grass looks good all over town. The Community House Park is beautiful. We ahve not fixed up the ball park this year as we do not plan to have a team. Almost all our ball players are playing in the "Big League" now.
We are all doing what we can here to keep the old home town just like you want to find it when you come back, and we are all hoping and praying that it will not be long until you can be coming back. Keep up your courage and your own well-being until that great day.
