Purchase Airport
Town Receives
$ 50,000 Grant
Greentom Town Council president
Robert Armstrong informed the
members of Greentown Main Street
Association that a Planning Grant for
$ 50,000 has been awarded. GMSA had
applied for the grant with which to hire
an engineering firm to develop a plan
for improvements to the downtown area
of Greentown. The grant comes
through the Indiana Department of
Commerce from the Federal Small
Cities CDBG program. The Town will
be required to supply $ 5,500,
approximately a 10% match toward the
project.
Main Street Elects
Officers of Greentown Main Street
Association, Inc. were reelected at a
meeting of the Board of Directors on
January 22. They are: Don Flook,
president; Brad Howell, vice president;
Sally Mower, secretary; and David
Eikenberry, treasurer. Don Flook, Jef
Buckley, Doris Countryman, and Brad
Howell were reelected as Directors for
a three year term. Rachel Jenkins was
elected as a Director for a three year

Cammerce was p m tto talk about the
various plans concerning U. S. 3 1. As
objections are being raised to plans foI
an upgrade on U. S. 31 which would
close off several streets, the possibility
of an eastside bypass is being
reconsidered. Todd stated that any
major project is several years away.
Susan Barlow, the new director of
Kokmo Main Street Association talked
about some of the accomplishments of
that association.
Council Elects
Officers
January 6 was the date on which the
Town Council, Plan Commission and
Board of Zoning Appeals elected
officers for 1998. The Council reelected
Robert Armstrong as president and
Roger Wolfe as vice president.
. The Council voted to purchase a 1998
Ford Crown Victoria police car from
Brad Howell Ford. The price of the car
is to be $ 20,713.00 with $ 2,000
guaranteed as trade- in on an older car
being used by the Police Department.
Stan Johnson was elected chairman of
the Plan Commission and Gary Lacy
vice chairman. Gene Kingery is
chairman of the Board of Zoning
LGllll. The Membership and Development Appeals and Gary Lacy vice chairman.

Gerald Cheek, Special Events Chairman of the Greentown Sesquicentennial,
has annound that the Beard Contest has started NOW! All men of the
community are encouraged to give up the razor, or at least rn- its use, and
start growing a beard, mustache, sideburns, or any combination of facial hair.
Sometime during the sesquicentennial celebration of June 11- 14,1998, a beard
contest will be held with prizes and LOTS OF FUN!

Allentries must be " naturally" grown hair, not " stack" on. Only one prize per winner.
To make the transition fiom smmthie to the " full glory of a face full of hair",
buttons will be available at Don's Barber Shop which will state: " I'm growing a
beard for the Greentown S e s q u ~ ~ a k " .
Chairman Cheek encourages all men to band together and " show our women
that we can grow great looking beards".

Lisa Wagner and her daughter Sarah were enjoying the pleasant weather
January 22 on East Main Street, Greentown. Lisa was helping her son
Nathan, who is a carrier for fhe Kokomo Tribune.
