Interior of auditorium which is planned for Eastern High School
The Eastern Howard School Board and others present at its meeting
February 9 had the opportunity to examine several views of the planned
addition to the elementary school and the auditorium to be added to the high
school. Samples of the selected floor and wall coverings were also
presented by personnel of CSO Architects and Interiors.
The main entrance to the elementary school will be on the west, with
offices moved to that side of the building. Advantages to this move are to
relieve the parking congestion presently experienced at the east entrance
when parents drop off or pick up children. It also orientates the elementary
building toward the high school, which will make travel easier between the
two buildings, whether by vehicle or wallung. A pull- through drive will be
provided for busses as well as near- by parking for visitors. In addition to
the rwrientation of the building, six new classrooms, a new kitchen and
cafeteria will be added. The new addition creates a loop. It also provides an
interior courtyard which could be used for outdoor gatherings. The present
cafeteria will be converted into a large band ensemble room.
The new 808 seat auditorium will be connected to the high schwl on the
northwest side. This location is near the existing woodshop area, which can
be used for building sets, and is near the existing music area.
The Board approved the construction documents.
Biddina Process to Beain
Larry Koenes from Skillman and Co., the construction management fm
overseeing the construction, stated that bids will be accepted March 18 for
the elementary school project and bids will be due for the high school
project on March 23. A bid recommendation will be brought back to the
board April 13. The total construction project is estimated at $ 10.5 million.
Family Fun Feast Features Clowns and Others
Two hundred and @- nine dinners were served at Eastern Element. Parent
Teacher Organization's Family Fun Feast on February 1. The event was held
in the high school cafetoriwn. Following dinner the attendees were treated to
twenty acts ( 37 performers) by students. Pictured above are Kiersten Kelsey
and Heather Kingseed, who performed a clown skit. The profit from the event
was approximately $ 700, which will be used to benefit the students.
