* PUMP FEST.
The first annual Greentown Pump
Fest, to be Saturday, September 18, is
shaping up to be an outstanding event.
Starting with a theme inspired by the
Town F'ump which once was on the
northwest comer of the main
intersection in town, features have been
included around - the word " pump".
There will be a working pump in the
street where visitors can reminisce the
days when all household water was
. supplied from that source and the young
can try their hand at drawing water by
pumping. Some members of Eastern
High School's football team will
demonstrate " pumping iron". Dinner
music fiom 4: OO to 7: OO will be
provided by means of a pump organ.
There will be a display of " Greentown is
Still Pumping" featuring the scientific
work presently being done to assure a
safe and adequate water supply for
residents of Greentown. An art show
will feature work involving. pumps.
Wendell Lange will have a display of
small engines, many of which were used
to power pumps.
In addition to these specialized
features, there will be food, crafts, flea
market, children's activities,
entertainment, a pie baking contest and
auction, a drawing for many prizes, yard
sales, and an exhibit on Greentown
Glass.
The Pump Fest is sponsored by the
Greentown Main Street Association to
raise money € or their projects and " To
provide a community activity which will
enhance the quality of life for residents
of Greentown and the surrounding
community". Hours are 9: OO a. m. to
6: OO p. m. The fest will be on Meridian
Street directly north of the stoplight in
Greentown. In case of rain, it wdl be
held in the new Lions 4- H Pavilion at
the fairgrounds.
Firemen Collect for MDA
Members of the Greentown Volunteer Fire Co. accepted donations for
the Muscular Dystrophy Association on August 21 and 22. The total
amount collected was $ 4,063.47. In the photo above, Jerry Myers and

How High? How Low?
As construction workers5egan work on the Eastern High School
auditorium, they first dug a hole 15' deep for the orchestra pit. They now
are preparing to pour two 65' high c6ncrete towers on which a steel beam
will be placed. This will be part of the fly tower. A fly tower serves as a
storage facility for scenery, staging equipment, and the conced shell.

Only Moderate Interest Shown for
Seats on Town Council
As of August 3 1,1999, only 8 people One council member is elected from
had filed to be candidates for the 6 seats each of five wards, plus a clerk-on
the Greentown Town Council. They treasurer. As more than one Democrat
were Ward 1: James A. Harris - Dem. candidate from Ward 1 and Ward 5
Brad A. Chaplin - Dem. Ward 2: Roger have filed, a Town Convention for the
L. Wolfe - Rep. Ward 3: Michael J. Democrat Party will need to be called to
Hendrix - Dem. Ward 4: Robert voteonwhichcandidatewillappearon
Armstrong - Dem. Ward 5: Todd A. fhe ballot on Nov. 2.
Everling - Dem. and Donald G. Flook - All registered voters within the Town
Dem. ClerWTreasurer: Barbara of Greentown are eligible to vote for all
Middleton - Rep. Deadline for filing is six seats, regardless of which ward they
