The Greentow " Volume 9, Issue 8 " a paper " Toe the Line or Do the Time" Greentown Marshal Jeff Bennett arrests Pizza Place owner, Randy Bennett, for not getting a permit before installing a sign on his building. Unaware that a permit is now required to erect any sign ( with a few exceptions), Randy had installed on the side of his building a sign promoting the Pizza Place and The Church Mouse, a business on North Meridian. The new ordinance addresses matters of position, wording, illumination, size, shape, color, and flashing, intermittent, revolving, rotating or animated lighting. There are also rules about signs for events and political signs. ' The complete ordinance, which includes other types of permits required, can be seen at the Greentown Utility office, 1 12 N. Meridian St. After being informed of the ordinance, Randy went to the Utility office and paid the $ I 5.00 permit fee. Since the ordinance is so new, the $ 50.00 filing fee for work begun without a permit was waived. As is hopefully evident, the above photo was staged to help in a public awareness effort by Bennett of the fact that there are some new aspects to the town's zoning ordinance. Public Hearing to Be Helc br the people" August 2002 Grapevine Loses Faithfbl Staff Member by Rachel Jenkins Lucy Grey came into our lives in February 1996. Discovered at Vermont Feed and Grain, she as much chose me as I chose her. From the beginning, she showed above average intelligence and before long assumed a place-- in our home and hearts. Her habit of lying on whatever papers I was working on earned her the title, " Feline Paperweight". She was particularly diligent during the long hours at the computer while working on the Grapevine, lying on a stool close by the keyboard or in a cardboard box at the window. In other areas of her home, she greeted visitors and craved attention. She " broke in" any new rug, chair, or item of the least significance, by lying 3n it. She had sudden bursts of energy, ending in a dash under a throw rug, in pursuit of an imaginary mouse. She would wake me with a pat on the cheek. She eerily seemed to know when I needed up early for a meeting and would wake me earlier than usual. She made frequent patrols of the perimeter of her property. It was during one of these patrols that she strayed outside her boundaries and was hit by a vehicle on July 1 1,2002. She was buried in the box she loved to nap in, lying on top of the latest issue of the Greentown Grapevine, with her favorite toy, a rubber band, and covered with catnip. She taught us the value of play, the value of relaxation, the value of companionship and the value of duty. She is greatly missed by her " parents" at the Jenkins home. < - Lucy Grey 1995- 2002 on Added Travel Lanes The Indiana Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Thursday, August 8, 2002, at 6: OO p. m. in the Eastern Jr./ Sr. High School cafeteria.
