Greentown Police
Kept Busy with
Vehicle Thefts, a
Break- in, a Hit and
Rurand More

An arrest has been made by
the Greentown Police
Department in a string of
vehicle thefts that began in
September. On September
16th, Wayne Powell reported
that hi? truck had been stolen
from his residence on West
Main Street. Powell told
officers that he believed the
keys had been taken out of the
ignition the day before. The
truck was recovered two days
later, abandoned near 800 East,
but the keys were still missing.
According to Greentown
Marshall, Jeff Bennett, Powell’s
truck was again stolen on
September 29th and relocated at
the same location, near 800
East. This time, thought a 13
year old juvenile was found in
the vehicle. When the juvenile
was searched, keys belonging to
a vehicle belonging to Justin
Moore of Holiday Lane were
found in his pocket. Moore had
reported the theft of the keys on
September 23. The juvenile was
charged with both thefts.
Earlier in September, Barbara
Burget of Ea& Walnut, reported
her vehicle stolen after she’d
left the keys in it. The vehicle
was located 20- 30 minutes later
near the grain elevator,
abandoned, with the engine
running. There have been no
arrests in that theft.
In other police department
news, a. female juvenile was
taken into custody inside
Eastern High School during
school hours on October 12th
after a tip was recieved from

another student. The juvenile
was charged with possession of
marijuana and possession of a
“ RX only” 1egend drug.
A black Chevy Suburban was
reported to have been involved
in a hit and run on October
16th. The owner of the vehicle,
Brenda Hensley, told police her
vehicle had been parked in
front of Winner’s Choice trophy
shop on North Meridian Street
on the evening of October 15th.
Utilizing video surveillance put
in place by the town to watch
the fountain plaza, police were
able to review tapes and view
the hit and run. The vehicle, a
1997 Ford Taurus, was
identified and found at the
home of Matt McCall. No
charges have been filed,
however the incident is under
review by the prosecutors
office.
One DUI was reported for the
month of October. Jason Foster
of Albany, Indiana was arrested
on the evening of October 20th
and charged with driving under
the influence and possession of
an “ RX only” legend drug.
A male juvenile was arrested
October 20th for intimidation.
Police say the juvenile
threatened to cause bodily harm
to a school employee.
Also on October 20th, owners
of Hill’s Country Plant and
Garden reported a break- in. An
undisclosed amount of money
was stolen from the business.

Sewage Rates
Increase 54.7%
On October 17, following a
Public Hearing, the Town
Council unanimously passed
Ordinance 2006- 5 establishing
an amended schedule of rates
and charges to be collected by
the town from property owners
served by the sewage works
department to take effect
January 1,2007.
Annexation Petition
A voluntary annexation
petition was presented at
Council meeting on Oct. 3 for
the property at 414 East
Payton S t r e e t which
encompasses 2.74 acres. The
proposed plan for changes to
the property are to include
subdividing the plot and
placing a second home on
what is now farmland. A
puSIic hearing on the
annexation will be held
November 7 at 7: OO p. m.
Speed Limit in
School Zone
Marshall Bennett reminded
the public that the school zone
speed limit is 20 MPH year
‘ round. He said, “ The children
of the town have one pqblic
park and library located in the
parameters of the school.
Motorists need to think of the
school zone as being occupied
by the public seven days a
week 365 days a year. Please
take care of our children and
their safety. Slow down when
entering and traveling around
the school zone where children
are always at play.”

Store to Open
in Greentown
A Grand Opening is planned
for the Family Dollar store in
Greentown on November 30 at
9: OO a. m. The sign is already in
place . on the expanded building
which was the hardware store,
and construction work is
progressing. .
A representative of the
zompany said they will hire 25
to 30 people as a set- up crew,
from which regular employees
will be selected. Applications
we now being taken. at the
Family Dollar store on East
Morgan Street near U. S. 31
North in Kokomo. Interviewing
and hiring will be Friday,
November 17 from 9 to 5 at the
Sreentown store. They will
itart setting up the store on
hesday, November 2 1. The
manager will be Sara
Fetterhoff, who is manager zit
the Morgan Street store.
Cheerleaders Decorate for WE CARE
Eastern H. S. cheerleaders Kirsten Bryan, Kourtney Cox, Kyla Alexander, Ashley Scott, Courtney
Wisher, and Morgan Harden met on a Saturday morning to decorate a Christmas wreath for the WE
CARE 14* annual Trim- a- Tree Festival auction. They named the wreath, “ COMET SPIRIT”. The
wreath will be on display at the Kokomo Mall through Nov. 12h. The auction will start at 4: 45pm
3n November 12*. The girls invite all Comet fans to come and bid on the wreath to benefit the
needy of the area.
