Results have been announced
for both the Howard County
Science Fair and the Ball State
Regional Science Fair. Twenty-five
students from Eastern
participated in the Howard
County fair, twenty- four in the
junior division and one in the
senior division. Receiving
second placings were Sarah
Parker, Emily Cranor, Kristin
Anderson, Kari Bagwell, Kim
Neuhalfen, Laura Sarra and
Adelle Howell. Josh Maggart,
Senior Division, also received a
second place. Receiving first
place awards and an invitation

Sure signs of Spring - Yard Sales and blooming flowers.
On March 24 Loretta Simpson of Swayzee and her daughter Kim Glassburn of Greentown made an
impromptu stop at one of the season's first " garage" sales. No doubt many yard sale enthusiasts
are suffering from winter " withdrawl" and will welcome the familiar customof offering " don't need
anymores" to the eager public. The pretty daffodils were spotted in front of 224 Holiday Dr.
Council Votes Heard
A joint meeting of the
Greentown Town Council and the
Greentown Area Economic
Development Committee was held
March 14 at which time they
heard the basics of what is
involved in obtaining a
Community Focus Fund grant.
Jim Brannon, President of the
Kokomo Howard County
Development Corporation, and
Tennis Guyer, Vice- president of
same, were present to provide
information and answer
questions. The grants, which
are administered by the Indiana
Department of Commerce,
Community Development
Division, provide funds in a
90/ 10% ratio to communities
under 50,000 population for
projects " which improve the
quality of life and increase the
local economic capacity" of the
community.
Brannon suggested Greentown
might consider two blocks east
and west of the stoplight and
one block north and south. Such
projects usually emphasize
nostalgia and the character and
heritage of a town. As to the
details of a project, public
participation is sought from the
beginning. The Grapevine will
announce the next meeting as
soon as it is set. The Town
Council voted to proceed with
the process. President Bob
Armstrong appointed Don
DeShaney as Co- ordinator.
At its meeting of March 1,1995,
the Eastern Howard School
Board heard a presentation of
recommendations by Dr. Lindan
Hill and Technology Director,
Dennis Bagley. Due to the
comprehensive nature of the
p r o j e c t t h e Board also
considered the project at their
meeting March 14.
The Technology Committee
identified several goals during
the development of a five year
technology plan which include
the following: Cabling and
network hardware & software to
accomplish a school wide
n e t w o r k , teacher a n d
administrator workstations,
additional class room computers ,
a new typing lab and upgrades
to existing labs, projection
systems for presentations, and
laptops for staff checkout. The
total cost to accomplish all of
these goals was estimated at
$ 655,000 plus cost of wiring
infrastructure at $ 160,000.
