Description
Newspaper clipping from the Wednesday , October 7 , 1970 issue of the "Greenfield Daily Reporter ". Report of an account of James Whitcomb Riley's first published poem , "Song of the New Year "; which first appeared in the December 19 , 1926 edition of "The Indianapolis Sunday Star ". The poem was written in 1877 by James Whitcomb Riley in response to an advertisement placed by "The Indianapolis Journal ". Riley entered his poem in the contest which was looking for a "suitable poem for the carriers ' New Year's address. "
