UNITED STATES COAL COMMISSION WASHINGTON May 11, 1923. Judge Dan M. Link, Auburn, Indiana. My dear Dan: On consultation with members of the Commission, we are satisfied that you can do the work even at the expiration of two weeks, and the Commission will be willing to pay a lump sum of $500 and expenses. We will not make the contract definite now, because you would be compelled to take vouchers for your expenses, and we prefer to just make it a lump sum at the end. If you conclude to go and there will be time enough before you go, I should like to send you certain alleged information in the hauls of the Commission to guide you in the investigation. The Commission would, also, like you to spend a day or two in the east Kentucky field. Please write me about when, if at all, you can go. Very sincerely yours,
