THOMAS R. MARSHALL 1939 NORTH ILLINOIS STREET INDIANAPOLIS April 26th, 1924 Hon. Dan M. Link, Auburn, Ind. Dear Dan : I have your enclosure, about which you said nothing. I shall be as decent to this young man as I possibly can be, but he evidently has the modern idea that no difference whether he merits anything or not, if he only has a pull, he will get it. I find on the watch question that these modern watches which every boy likes, are all in filled cases; that it is only the old style that are solid cases. I am going to forward you one of these days an open face, solid gold watch case of the old style, which you can give to Marshall for his birthday rather than commencement. I am arranging that if he would prefer one of the new style watches, with the filled case, to have it exchanged, or, if you find out he would like a wrist watch, return it to me and I will exchange it for one of that kind. Regardfully yours,
