Description |
A public subscription library was established in Anderson by 1879, but it led a nomadic existence for many years. It found a home on the second floor of the Masonic Temple Building on Meridian Street in the 1890's. After the city voted to support the library in the late 1890's, Andrew Carnegie was approached about funding a library. He gave the city $50,000 and the Carnegie Library was built on the northeast corner of 10th and Jackson Streets. It was dedicated on April 20, 1905. |
